Youth Workshop: Botanical Cyanotypes with Sarah Wicker

Inspired by the work of the first female photographer Anna Atkins, students will create their own botanical photographs. We will explore the local ecosystem, collect samples, and photograph them utilizing the sun! Together we will learn about chemistry, history, ecology, and the principles of design. This workshop is designed for children ages 6-11. All materials will be provided, and all skill levels are welcome; just bring your imagination! Relief Wood Sculpture Workshop with Donald Wilson

Artist Donald Wilson will combine art-making and guided imagery, a mind-body intervention, to inspire the creative process and explore the possibilities of abstract art. Participants will focus on how positive and negative spaces support and engage each other while using organic and geometric shapes cut from wood to explore the realm of non-objective compositions. Then, a guided imagery exercise will create a mental movie to generate ideas to adorn the compositions. Participants will take home their own abstract sculpture, ready to display. Teen Workshop: Screen Printing the Warhol Way

Pop artist Andy Warhol created many of his iconic works through silk screen printing, a method in which layers of ink are transferred through a fine mesh screen. We invite teens to channel their inner Warhol and join Steve Prince for this workshop that will explore the art of silk screen. This workshop is designed for youth ages 12-18. The Art of the Book

In this two-day intensive workshop, participants will explore and study the exciting world of the history of books in Swem Library’s Special Collections Research Center. Participants will examine rare books in Special Collections, learn about the history of the book, and create a collaborative artwork using one of the oldest forms of book making through relief printmaking.
