What Does a Docent Do?
The word “docent” is derived from the Latin word ‘docere,’ meaning ‘to teach.’ Docents are knowledgeable, enthusiastic people who are interested in sharing a greater appreciation and understanding of art to others. Docents support the Muscarelle through:
Touring
Docents develop and provide guided tours of exhibitions at the Muscarelle to the public, school groups, and other community organizations.
Outreach
Docents present art appreciation programs throughout the community.
Docent Information Sessions
Learn more about the docent program, meet current docent team members, and enjoy a guided gallery tour.
Our next Docent Cohort begins in August 2026. We invite those interested in applying to first attend our upcoming Docent Information Session on Tuesday, March 24, from 1–3 PM at the Muscarelle.
