The registration deadline for this trip has passed; please stay tuned for future trips!
On this special, two-day members trip to Washington, D.C, we’ll visit three fantastic museums.
We’ll first travel to Glenstone, a private art museum on an idyllic 230-acre campus in Potomac, MD. Housing the art collection of Emily and Mitchell Rales, the museum was designed to be “not only a place, but a state of mind created by the energy of architecture, the power of art, and the restorative qualities of nature.” In addition to their permanent collection of post-WWII art, we’ll see a special exhibition celebrating Ellsworth Kelly at 100.
Next, we’ll visit the Kreeger Museum, the former home of David Lloyd and Carmen Kreeger. The museum and sculpture garden now display the couple’s remarkable collection of artwork from the 1850s to the present. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of the permanent collection, which includes works by Monet, Renoir, Picasso and Pissarro, as well as a wide range of works by modern American artists.
We’ll end at the always impressive National Gallery of Art, home to more than 150,000 works that span the history of Western art. In addition to visiting all of your favorites, you’ll be there for the opening day of The Land Carries Our Ancestors: Contemporary Art by Native Americans, an exciting new show curated by artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.
We’ll stay overnight at the Bethesdan Hotel by Hilton in downtown Bethesda, just steps from great restaurants, charming boutiques and more. Trip fee includes bus transportation from Williamsburg and hotel stay.
We’ll lunch both days at a museum, and dinner will be on-your-own in Bethesda.
