For more than 1,000 years, Native peoples in the American Southwest have made aesthetically distinctive ceramics. At One with the Earth explores the stylistic elements in Zuni pottery traditions with special emphasis on the masterworks of the late Randy Nahohai and his family. Zuni ceramics from the private collection of Ed Chappell (1940-2020) and Susan Buck form the core of the exhibition, along with art and photography from the Muscarelle’s permanent collection.

Curated by Muscarelle Curator of Native American Art Danielle Moretti-Langholtz, the exhibition will offer programming that includes visiting elders from Zuni to offer Native perspectives on the exhibition and celebrate the long-held personal friendship between Chappell and Nahohai. The course Native People of the American Southwest (ANTH/NATV 324) will be taught in conjunction with this exhibition.
