Judith Godwin: Bold Strokes
February 12, 2027 — May 30, 2027
Muscarelle Museum of Art
Bold Strokes explores the artistic achievement of Virginia-born Judith Godwin, one of the most significant yet under-recognized figures associated with Abstract Expressionism. Featuring approximately 30 works, many monumental in scale, the exhibition traces the development and range of Godwin’s practice across her career.
The exhibition examines how Judith Godwin’s studies with Hans Hofmann and her friendship with dancer and choreographer Martha Graham shaped a distinctive visual language that combines painterly rigor with movement, gesture and emotional intensity.
Judith Godwin: Bold Strokes is curated by David Brashear, Director and Chief Curator of the Muscarelle Museum of Art. The exhibition features works on loan from the Judith Whitney Godwin Foundation for the Arts and private collections.
