POSTPONED: LARGE FORMAT CAMERA DEMONSTRATION
Join Eliot Dudik, Lecturer in Photography, Department of Art & Art History at William & Mary, for an introduction to the large format camera, and its abilities in producing a portrait. After capturing an image, film will be processed, and the group will gather in the darkroom to see a finished print emerge from the operation. Hands On: A Ceramics Experience with Michelle Erickson ’82
Students are invited to meet ceramic artist Michelle Erickson ’82 and learn about her new work in progress entitled “UNITY,” commissioned in collaboration with the Office of the President at William & Mary for the President's Collection of Art and the Muscarelle Museum of Art and William & Mary. Botanical Cyanotypes Workshop
This workshop is sold out; we have added a second session on April 20. This Earth Day, we are Inspired by the work of the first female photographer Anna Atkins, who created photograms to document plants' botanical importance and aesthetic qualities. Students will create their own botanical photographs using the same process. Together, we will explore the local ecosystem, collect samples, and photograph them utilizing the sun. Summer Teen Drawing Intensive
Is your teen constantly drawing? Do they dream of going to art school? Are they worried about the application and portfolio process? Join us in a three-day art intensive taught by William & Mary’s Director of Community Engagement and Distinguished Artist-in-Residence Steve Prince and student interns who will help demystify the process, talk about their personal experiences, review portfolios, and provide assistance and advice during studio time. Teen Metal Casting Camp
In this exciting week-long intensive, students will learn the limitless process of lost-wax (cire perdue) aluminum metal casting. Students will explore the history of metal casting and create unique, symbolic aluminum metal cast masks. Students will make a plaster copy of their faces, create a wax positive from the mold, manipulate the wax by adding various symbolic elements, create a ceramic shell mold, burn out the wax from the mold, and replace the wax with 1000 degrees of aluminum, hence creating the lost wax (cire perdue) metal casting process. Meet the Muscarelle – W&M Family Weekend
The Muscarelle Museum of Art welcomes families to William & Mary! Although our galleries are currently closed due to construction, we are continuing to offer workshops, lectures, pop-up exhibits and special events throughout campus and town. Later this fall, we'll be reopening the expanded museum in the new Martha Wren Briggs Center for the Visual Arts. Stop by to learn more about our expansion project, the museum's permanent collection, upcoming exhibitions, and opportunities for students. We'll also have refreshments, an art activity, and more!
