David Brashear has served on the Muscarelle Board of Trustees since 1999, serving as chair from 2004 to 2008. Since 2013, he has chaired the capital campaign for the Museum. Brashear graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, subsequently receiving an MBA from Harvard and has extensive experience with the Museum, the arts and educational institutions. Brashear is an accomplished photographer and his work has been featured in several museum exhibitions. He has studied architectural history at Columbia University and has written extensively on the subject. In addition to his involvement at William & Mary, Brashear is currently a trustee and vice chair of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation and is chair of the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. He formerly served as president of the Bronxville Board of Education and vice chair of the WHRO-Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association.

Lauren Greene holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from William & Mary and a Master of Letters in Art History: Dress and Textile Histories from the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland. As the Curatorial Research and Project Assistant at the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Greene assisted with the restoration and reinterpretation of Thomas Jefferson’s private suite of rooms at Monticello in Charlottesville, Va. She worked as an interpreter at the Montpelier Foundation and interned at the National Trust for Scotland and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Adriano Marinazzo is an Italian architect and architectural historian specializing in the virtual reconstruction of historical monuments, a subject he taught at the Department of the History of Architecture at the University of Florence. His research encompasses art, technology, and the development and application of digital tools in museum studies. Among his research is a noteworthy new hypothesis on a Michelangelo sketch, identified by Marinazzo as the architectural outline of the Sistine Ceiling, possibly the first drawing made by the great artist while preparing for the decoration of the ceiling. In 2014, Marinazzo was invited to show this groundbreaking discovery at the XIV Biennale of Architecture of Venice. He later developed a multimedia work concerning the painted architecture of the Sistine Ceiling and he is writing a book with the working title: Michelangelo: The Tomb and the Vault. Comparisons between the Mausoleum of Julius II and the Painted Architecture of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling. In 2008 Marinazzo worked with the Muscarelle when he assisted with the Painting the Italian Landscape: Views from the Uffizi exhibition. In 2010 he presented a study with a video and artistic renderings during the Michelangelo: Anatomy as Architecture, Drawings by the Master exhibition. In 2013 he contributed to the exhibition, Michelangelo: Sacred and Profane, Masterpiece Drawings from the Casa Buonarroti, by writing the architectural entries of the catalogue. Marinazzo is currently curating VIRTUAL MUSCARELLE, a collection of virtual exhibitions created by the Museum. He is also completing research for a three-dimensional reconstruction project on the architectural history of the William & Mary campus.
Danielle Moretti-Langholtz, PhD

Danielle Moretti-Langholtz holds a BA from the State University of New York at Oneonta, and an MA and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma. Moretti-Langholtz came to William & Mary from the American Museum of Natural History and has served as the Director of the American Indian Resource Center in William & Mary’s Department of Anthropology since 1998. Moretti-Langholtz teaches courses with an emphasis on Native American history and culture and a course on Collecting and Exhibiting Cultures, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She is committed to civically engaged research with indigenous communities, and mentoring students interested in anthropology and museum studies. To date she has curated several exhibitions with the assistance of graduate and undergraduate students; the work of Jaune Quick-to-see Smith (2007), In Reach of Memory Still: A Kiowa Legacy in Art (2011), Glenn Close/A Life in Costume (2012), co-curated with Buck Woodard, PhD, Building the Brafferton: The Founding, Funding and Legacy of America’s Indian School (2016), co-curated with Melissa Parris and Steve Price, 1619 / 2019 (2019 – 2020). Moretti-Langholtz is actively working to build the Museum’s collection of Native American art and material culture in support of both future exhibitions and William & Mary’s Native Studies concentration.

Susan Kern received her PhD in History from William & Mary in 2005 and her masters in Architectural History from the University of Virginia in 1990. In between she worked in the archaeology department at Monticello, including two years directing that research. Her research interests include how the material world influences human behavior and interaction; she is as interested in plantation field work, factory floor plans, and tools, as she is in consumer goods and decorative arts. She also studies how museums and historic sites make use of the recent and distant past.

Steve A. Prince, MFA

Steve A. Prince is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his BFA from Xavier University of Louisiana and his MFA in Printmaking and Sculpture from Michigan State University and has shown his art internationally in various solo, group, and juried exhibitions. Prince received several honors for his art and scholarship including the 2010 Teacher of the Year for the City of Hampton and has participated in several residencies including the 2007 Partners of the Americas Artist in Residence in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Prince has lectured and conducted workshops in both secular and sacred settings internationally in a variety of media. Many of his hands-on workshops and community-based projects have culminated in the creation of permanent communal based artworks. Among his public works are an 8 x 8 ft. mixed media work entitled Lemonade: A Picture of America created in 2017 to commemorate the first three African American students in residence at William & Mary and The Links Project created in coordination with the Museum’s 2019 – 2020 exhibition 1619 / 2019. He spreads a message of hope and renewal to the global community through the cathartic funerary tradition from New Orleans called the Dirge and Second Line operating under the credo, “your imagination is your only limitation.”

Melissa Parris holds both a B.A. and M.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Art History, is a graduate of the Jekyll Island Management Institute (JIMI) in museum management training, and is a Certified Institutional Protection Specialist (CIPS) and Manager (CIPM) through The International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection. She served as Registrar for the Muscarelle Museum of Art in the mid-to-late 1990s before moving to London, England where she worked as a Registrar of Contemporary Arts at Martinspeed, Ltd. Upon her return to the States, she has worked for Art Services International as Registrar and at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as Associate Registrar for Exhibitions and Loans before re-joining the staff at the Muscarelle where she is now Head of Collections and Exhibitions Management and Curator of the President’s Collection of Art. Parris is a member of the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS), co-founder of the Hampton Roads Registrars Group (HRRG), Virginia Association of Museums (VAM) and served on the International Liaisons Task Force for the Registrars Committee of the American Alliance of Museums (RC-AAM) of which she is a long-standing member. In 2011, Parris served as a Cultural Delegate to Cuba for the American Alliance of Museums and has served as program co-chair for two international registrars and collections care specialists symposia in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Laura Fogarty holds a B.A. in History from Rhodes College and a Master of Science in Library Science (M.S.L.S.) with a concentration in Archives and Records Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Fogarty currently serves as the visual resources manager, social media manager, and publications specialist at the Museum in addition to her responsibilities in the Collections & Exhibitions department. Fogarty’s previous experience includes serving as the Registrar’s Fellow for the Muscarelle Museum of Art, working with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s curatorial department, completing an Archival Fellowship for the Memphis and Shelby County Room of the Benjamin L. Hooks Memphis Public Library, interning at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, and volunteering at the Mariners’ Museum. Fogarty is a member of the Virginia Association of Museums (VAM), Southeastern Museum Conference (SEMC), and Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS).

Kevin Gilliam received his B.A. from California State University at Long Beach. He has had a variety of museum experiences, including Exhibition Specialist at The University of Arizona Museum of Art, where he spent sixteen years. In 2005, he began working as an Art Handler for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, trading time between the museums and historic district. Gilliam joined the staff of the Muscarelle in 2008.
