AMERICA IN BLACK AND WHITE: DEPRESSION-ERA PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE FARM SECURITY ADMINISTRATION

The Muscarelle Museum of Art presents a selection of photographs from the Farm Security Administration, a New Deal-era project that created a pictorial record of American life between 1935-1944 and launched the careers of American photographers such as Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and Gordon Parks. The Williamsburg Regional Library Gallery at the Stryker Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Docent-led tours of the exhibition will be available Wednesdays from 2-4 PM and Fridays from 10 AM to noon. Other tours provided by request.

Join us as we celebrate the opening of our next pop-up exhibition at the Stryker Center, America in Black & White: Depression-Era Photographs from the Farm Security Administration. The exhibition includes selected photographs from the New Deal-era project that created a pictorial record of American life between 1935-1944 and launched the careers of notable American photographers such as Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and Gordon Parks. Browse the exhibition while enjoying refreshments and live music from the Appalachian Music Ensemble! The Stryker Center is located at 412 N. Boundary Street, adjacent to the Williamsburg Regional Library.

This workshop is sold out; we have added a second session on April 20. This Earth Day, we are Inspired by the work of the first female photographer Anna Atkins, who created photograms to document plants’ botanical importance and aesthetic qualities. Students will create their own botanical photographs using the same process. Together, we will explore the local ecosystem, collect samples, and photograph them utilizing the sun.
