David Brashear has a long history of engagement at the Muscarelle Museum of Art. He joined the Muscarelle’s Board of Trustees in 1999, and served as chair from 2004 to 2008. In 2013, he became chair of the Museum’s capital campaign, and served in that role until his appointment as the Museum’s Interim Director in January 2019. Brashear graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently received an MBA from Harvard. More recently, he completed extensive work at the graduate level at Columbia University, with a focus on architectural history. He has broad experience with arts and educational institutions. Brashear is an accomplished photographer and his work has been featured in several museum exhibitions. In addition to his involvement at William & Mary, Brashear is currently a trustee and vice chair of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. He formerly served as chair of the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, president of the Bronxville Board of Education, and vice chair of the WHRO-Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association.
