Selected Topics in Architecture Lecture Series: The Domestic Influence of Frank Lloyd Wright – Taliesin and the Evolution of the Work of E. Fay Jones

April 11, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Speaker: Ed Pease, Professor of Architecture, William & Mary
Muscarelle Museum of Art, VA United States
Free

Architect E. Fay Jones, FAIA (1921- 2004) was the rare apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright who went on to have a distinguished practice of his own, winning the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1990, and his Thorncrown Chapel was named 4th on the AIA’s list of most influential buildings of the 20th century. This lecture will examine the influence of Wright on Jones’ work, the evolution of his own architectural vocabulary that eventually took him beyond the strictures of Wright’s influence, and how the success and acclaim of Thorncrown Chapel presented him with unexpected challenges in the final years of his career.

Presented by MCV Foundation and VCU Health.
